The 20 tips and tricks for the home

Thanks to the tips and tricks of our household experts at Chiffon Vert, our blog aims to make your life easier. Since we know your schedule is often busy, we've put together a short list of the most useful home cleaning suggestions. Here are 20 of our top tips to help you with your daily tasks.

  • Did you know that if you allow enough dust to build up on your smoke detectors, you risk damaging them? Better to avoid it! A simple vacuum cleaning with attached soft brush is enough.

  • To kill germs, bacteria, mites and bed bugs, vacuum your mattresses or, if necessary, with a steamer. If it is a stain on the mattress, a solution of liquid dish soap mixed with baking soda in a spray bottle fixes the matter…. Just spray the solution on the stain, then blot or rub with a clean cloth.

  • Keep your door mats on each side: inside and out. The outdoor mat should be thicker and harder, to better remove dirt and dust from the shoes.

Then all you have to do is vacuum to clean them properly.

  • Start by removing the racks when you clean your oven each year. Mix ½ cup of baking soda with 3 tablespoons of water, and coat your oven with it. Let the solution work overnight. The next day, wipe down the oven with vinegar and a damp cloth. Are you running out of time? Our team will be happy to take care of it for you.

  • Replace your kitchen sponge every week. Immerse your dish brush in water before putting it in the microwave for 3 minutes to sterilize it. And, every two years, get new bath towels.

  • Are you wondering how to get rid of an old TV? Televisions contain chemicals that can be harmful to the environment if not disposed of properly. Contact a local unwanted waste disposal company to dispose of yours safely.

  • When reorganizing your refrigerator, whatever you store in the refrigerator door should be able to withstand some exposure to heat, as these products are the first to feel the effects when the door is opened. Stick to condiments, drinks or dairy products.

  • Need help packing the kids' lunch? No need to clutter it all up with a block of ice cream, a carton of fruit juice frozen beforehand is enough, which will keep everything cool.

  • Running out of closet space for your summer wardrobe? Save space by placing your dresses in a vacuum bag.

  • Do you have a wall or central air conditioner? Did you know that you have to clean it every 4 years? A poorly maintained system can breed dangerous bacteria. Contact a company specializing in cleaning to disinfect your wall unit or your central ventilation ducts.

  • The shower curtain needs to be changed every year. Dollar stores or two sell it for a good price.

  • Whole House Scent Tip: Add 10 drops of peppermint essential oil to your floor cleaning solution. Your home will be a real oasis of freshness.

  • A lambswool duster attracts dust instead of moving it. This is the best solution to eliminate the buildup on shelves and lamps. Do not use plastic fiber, as these feather dusters move dust.

  • To clean your floor effectively, there is nothing better than this mixture: 1 tablespoon of ecological degreaser, 3 tablespoons of white vinegar and 10 drops of peppermint essential oil. Degreaser helps remove tough stains, vinegar cleans the soapy layer of degreaser, and essential oil helps infuse a scent of freshness throughout your home.
