8 ways to start your spring cleaning

Wondering when the spring cleaning officially starts?

The first day of spring is March 20, but as the warmer weather approaches, you might be tempted to pull out your cleaning supplies and start cleaning. Go ahead and get a head start, because there really is no rule of thumb about when to start spring cleaning. And if you're anxious to get started or just waiting for the weather to heat up again, we've put together a smart list to help you get the most out of your busy schedule.

Canadians naturally chose spring as the time of year for a complete cleanup, as they had just spent the last few months locked indoors. Before modern plumbing and heating, they kept the fireplace on all winter long. Soot and ash covered everything, such as floors, windows and carpets. Once it gets warm enough, housewives go to great lengths to clean everything inside and out. Modern Canadians don't live in the same conditions as their ancestors, so it's easier to stay in your home all year round. Yet every spring we have the impulse to clean everything up and de-clutter everything. We recommend that you focus your energies on the following tasks:

  1. Clean the entrance to the house

  1. Vacuum the furniture.

Be honest… you hibernated on the couch eating popcorn for much of the winter. That's why now is the time to cool off for spring. Remove the cushions and vacuum up any dust bunnies hiding underneath. Locate the fabric cushions and clean the leather furniture well.

  1. Clean furniture and household appliances.

This is another area where you probably do a “pretty good” job all year round, but spring cleaning is a great time to remove all the furniture and vacuum under and behind. The same goes for appliances such as your stove and refrigerator. Take them out of the wall and vacuum behind. Scrub the middle area where your appliances come in contact with your kitchen counter with an old toothbrush to remove stuck-on food. You can use a degreaser if you want, but a little lukewarm water and white vinegar will do the same.

  1. Wash your bedding.

Strip the bed, turn the mattress, and wash it all. As you wash your sheets regularly, this is the time to take care of the mattress cover, duvet and pillows, even decorative pillows, which can accumulate water. dust and mites. As an added bonus, washing all of these pieces will help flush out allergies, as dander can get caught in the sheets. The same goes for window curtains… if they are not washable, at least vacuum them.

  1. Clean the bathroom baseboards.

Baseboards tend to get very dirty from the humidity in the bathroom and lint from the toilet paper. Apply a degreaser to the baseboards, leave for 10 minutes and wipe with a dry cloth. They become brilliant.

  1. Disinfect everything.

Fill a spray bottle (push-push) 3/4 full of water, 1/4 bleach and 10 drops of the essential oil of peppermint.

Soak a cloth with the solution and start disinfecting the wrists of doors, switches, remote controls, landline phones and even your cell phone to protect yourself from all diseases. Another hot spot is the trash. “Among the most used kitchen items, the trash can contain a lot of germs and odors.” While taking the bag out, take a solution of half vinegar / half hot water and wash it off. baskets.

  1. Clean the filters of air-conditioned units.

Wall-mounted air conditioner or air exchanger filters are plastic and easily cleaned with hot water and soap every 6 months of operation. For the central air conditioner, the filter should be changed at least once a year.

  1. Wash the walls

Cleaning the walls is essential to bring freshness to your home. The easiest and most efficient way is to use a mop (valida) which attaches to the support with buttons, and fill a boiler with 3 liters of lukewarm water, a little degreaser, and 10 drops of l peppermint essential oil or another you like. Dip the mop into the solution, wring out well, and clean the walls. Leave to dry at room temperature.
