How to clean your coffee maker

Coffee has become an energy and good mood trigger for many of us to start the day. That's right, though, something has to come before coffee ... a clean coffeemaker.

Cleaning your coffee maker regularly will ensure that your coffee tastes fresh and removes any lime deposits.

Did you know that you can clean your coffee maker with denture tablets?
That is true! Denture tablets, which are traditionally used to clean dentures to keep them sparkling clean, can also be used as a cleaning tool for your coffee maker!

What Makes Denture Tablets an Effective Cleaning Solution?
With ingredients like sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), sodium hypochlorite and citric acid, denture tablets can disinfect, whiten and remove stains with ease!

Here are the benefits of using these tablets:

  •  They are an ecological cleaning solution.
  •  They are cheaper and economical because a pack of tablets usually costs only 10 dollars.
  • There is no strong smell to deal with.
  • They save you time and energy as you don't need to scrub the stains.

How to clean your coffee maker with denture tablets:

Auto-Drip coffee maker:

Fill the back of the auto drip tank with lukewarm water. Drop two tablets into the water and let them dissolve completely. Run the coffee maker on a regular cycle and when finished, fill the reservoir with only lukewarm water and start over.

Cleaning a Keurig is very similar to the automatic drip process. Simply fill the reservoir with lukewarm water, drop a few tablets and let them dissolve. Run the mixture into cups until the tank is completely empty. Repeat the process with lukewarm water only and your Keurig will be like new.

French press:
For a French press, you need to disassemble all the parts to get a thorough cleaning. Separate the cover, plunger, filters and discs, then rinse off all residue. Fill the sink with lukewarm water and put down three to four denture shelves. Once they are completely dissolved, add the French press parts. Let sit until residue is almost completely removed, wipe off any excess and towel dry.

Automatic espresso machine:

For automatic espresso machines, put two to three tablets in the water tank, allow to dissolve, and operate the machine as normal to receive the solution. The cleaning will be complete because the solution will go through all the elements and make the machine like new.
